DAY 6 | JULY 25, 2025

JOANA GAMA – COMMENTED CONCERT

Joana Gama (Braga, 1983) is a Portuguese pianist whose work spans different artistic expressions, cultivating dialogues between music and other creative forms. Her career reveals a versatile and open practice, involving both solo projects and collaborations with artists from film, dance, theatre, photography, and, naturally, music.

Driven by a fascination for almost silent music—sounds that invite contemplation and deep listening—Joana Gama has devoted particular attention to the works of composers such as Erik Satie, John Cage, and Hans Otte, whose pieces explore time, space, and perception in unique ways.

At OSSO, she presented a commented concert in an intimate setting, guiding the audience through reflections on music, walking, mushrooms, and sounds that seem to know their own destiny. It was an experience that transcended mere listening, opening up a space for sensitive attention and a renewed outlook on how sound inhabits silence.

ALFREDO COSTA MONTEIRO – CONCERT

Born in Porto and based in Barcelona since 1992, Alfredo Costa Monteiro is a central figure in European experimental music. A sound artist, improviser, composer, and sound poet, his work is defined by the exploration of unstable processes and conceptual constraints, where objects become instruments and instruments assume new identities— a phenomenological play that challenges the very boundaries of music.

His career is marked by collaborations with musicians, choreographers, videographers, and filmmakers from across the globe, taking his work to stages in Europe, Canada, the United States, Russia, and Japan. His approach to sound creation is deeply experimental, weaving together improvisation, installation, sound art, and visual poetry in an ongoing investigation.

Costa Monteiro’s repertoire ranges from classical instruments such as guitar and accordion to everyday objects—altered or in their original form—including his own voice as a central element of artistic expression. His work expands the limits of music, exploring tonalities, harmonies, and textures that reveal sound in its purest and most experimental form, transforming it into a singular sensory experience.

BAR MARATONA @ OSSO

Throughout the event, the gastronomic experience was provided by an extension of Maratona Bar & Restaurant, an iconic establishment in Caldas da Rainha. Founded in 1966, it carries over four decades of history and tradition. In 2008, the space was renewed under a new project, reinventing the atmosphere of the traditional café into a modern, comfortable venue with a touch of glamour and sophistication.

More than a café, Maratona is a place for conviviality, reflection, and cultural exchange, designed for an urban and cosmopolitan public while remaining welcoming to long-standing regulars, promoting loyalty and a (re)education in gastronomy. Awarded in several competitions, Maratona stands out for its diversity, offering options for vegetarians, vegans, and those with gluten intolerance.
