DAY 1 | JULY 18 2025
LUIS JOSÉ MARTINS – (PARTES.EXTRA.PARTES) – CONCERT / INSTALLATION
partes . extra . partes is a concert-installation inspired by the concept of “forensic instrumental organology”, in dialogue with the ideas of Forensic Architecture. Through a detailed analysis of a 19th-century romantic guitar—restored by luthier Orlando Trindade in Caldas da Rainha and performed live—the project maps the extractivist and colonial logics underpinning its construction, as well as that of many Western instruments.
This work continues the path initiated with the concert-installation CasaFloresta, created by Joana Sá and Lucas Tavares and premiered at TBA – Teatro do Bairro Alto in December 2022. It emerges as a response to the questions raised in that context, expanding the investigation into the historical, material, and cultural processes shaping instrumental production.
M.A.S.I EXHIBITION – A COMMON TERRITORY – INSTALLATION
An exhibition gathering works developed during the artistic research residencies of the Master’s in Sound and Image Arts (ESAD.CR), carried out in partnership with OSSO.
Rooted in the lived experience of São Gregório and the proximity to OSSO’s context, students were challenged to create short-term projects in a laboratory environment, under the guidance of guest artists and with the support of the programme’s professors.
These works arise from the intersection of pedagogy, creation, and research—showcasing not only results but, above all, processes in constant evolution. The exhibition reflects the experimental nature of the methodologies and artistic practices developed across audiovisual forms: cinema, sound arts, and photography.
The residencies were supported by FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P., under the Programmatic Funding awarded to the Laboratory for Research in Design and Arts (LIDA), ESAD.CR
MARGARIDA GARCIA – CONCERT
Born in Lisbon in 1977, Margarida Garcia has, since the 1990s, developed a unique approach to the electric double bass, cultivating a personal and innovative language. Before moving to New York in 2004—where she lived for seven years and performed regularly with Loren Connors and Marcia Bassett—she was a central presence in Lisbon’s underground scene, where she met guitarist Manuel Mota, her long-term collaborator since 1998.
Her explorations with the bow, marked by dark and dramatic tonalities, navigate silent and shadowy territories, and can be heard in collaborations with artists such as Thurston Moore, Mattin, DJ Marfox, and Eddie Prévost. Beyond music, the visual arts play a vital role in her trajectory, encompassing drawing publications, exhibitions, and graphic work for multiple musical releases.
MARTA ZAPPAROLI + ALBERTO LOPES – CONCERT
A duo dedicated to improvisation and live performance, Marta Zapparoli and Alberto Lopes create a singular sonic universe. Working with self-recorded radio waves on cassette, live radio detection through antennas and receivers, and combining these with amplified electric guitar, extended strings, and electronics, they weave immersive soundscapes.
The result is an experience where dark noise and luminous melodies coexist, drifting in a sea of interference—a continuous dialogue between electromagnetic waves, audio, and radio, giving rise to intense and captivating auditory journeys.
