The Selva • Camarão-Girafa

Ricardo Jacinto: cello and electronics (+ harmonium on Cocuruto)
Gonçalo Almeida: double bass and electronics
Nuno Morão: drums and percussion

“Camarão-Girafa” is the fourth album by The Selva, a trio formed in 2016. Known for its exploration of a wide spectrum of musical styles, the band now presents its signature improvised musical dialogue infused with electroacoustic textures and minimalist, repetitive strategies.

Over the years, The Selva’s music has evolved through the incorporation of electronic and electroacoustic devices, expanding its idiosyncratic and diverse sonic world. This new album, mixed by Manuel Pinheiro, preserves an approach that resists fixed genre classification, favouring progressive compositions built around repetition and slow textural transformations.

The inclusion of electronic elements and an expanded palette of string instruments, combined with a rock-inspired post-production, heightens the listener’s experience. With “Camarão-Girafa”, The Selva reaches a new threshold in the experimental territories of contemporary jazz.
