Osso Journal #3

Jornal OSSO is a bimonthly publication developed in close dialogue with the artistic residency programme. Each issue is co-edited with an invited guest, establishing the journal as an additional space for sharing and disseminating artistic practice. This edition corresponds to the 2023 cycle curated by Rita Thomaz.

A particular interest in the way places are characterised by their flora, and in how the archive of colours and drawings we extract from it (or recognise within it) can inhabit drawing and painting practices, served as the starting point for Rita Thomaz in designing the programme of this year’s third cycle. Following long walks through the landscape of São Gregório, observing, gathering and cataloguing the local flora, the resident artists in this cycle (Rita Thomaz, Francisca Carvalho and Sara Mealha) created a visual essay accompanied by a colour chart obtained from the natural pigments of selected plants, together with an archival and reflective text about them.
